"Sometimes I would like to ask God why He allows poverty, suffering and injustice when He could do something about it. But, I'm afraid He would ask me the same question."

Quick trip to Haiti

Off for 3 days to Haiti. Lots to get done. Pray that I'll be smarter than I am. (which isn't asking for all that much, I know). ;)

notes from my brother-in-law Tim

(It was my brother-in-law's last day in Haiti. He'd worked all week with a short-term team, building 2 school rooms and then helping to repair a roof on a kids' shelter at a local orphanage. He wrote the following after finishing on that roof)

I know there's probably a hundred people within walking distance of this little project wtih stories that'll wrench your heart the same way. We all heard the downpours last night and we'll hear them again tonight. More children will huddle in a corner somewhere wondering if God really loves them or even notices that they're here. It can get a little overwhelming to realize that this little act of mercy today was a pitiful strike against evil and injustice.

But for 17 boys that share this little corner of the world, they won't have to huddle in the corner of the room tonight.
I have to be OK with that!

A missiological lesson from a Haitian church leader

"The missionaries who came to Haiti knew exactly what they were saying; however, until today we don't know exactly what the Haitians heard."

End of Year, 2011

END OF YEAR, 2011

This time of year always gives pause for reflection. And what a year 2011 has been. Over 3 months in Brasil, 7 (or was that 8) trips to Haiti and more miles on the car than I care to imagine. And as our lives (looking forward) have come more into focus, it's with great anticipation that we step into 2012. We should end the year back living in Brasil; we should also end the year more involved than ever in Haiti....and we wouldn't have it any other way. In the midst of all of this, the word "gratitude" may be the most apropos. Gratitude to our Lord for His calling and equipping, gratitude to so many who support us (in so many different ways), gratitude for the most incredible and loving family....and an eternal gratitude to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for what He has done!

OUR ROLE IN HAITI

The "imminent crisis" that was Haiti in 2010 is now over; what remains is the continued, on-going, long-term, "this is Haiti" need for transformation. Specifically, Steve is the transitional leader of our ReachGlobal ministry team in Haiti, working with our international and Haitian leaders, and working also with our 14 different ministry partners in an attempt to resource them toward "transformation" in their particular areas/ministries. I have to admit that at times I feel like the kid with his finger in the dyke trying to keep up with all the needs and possibilities....oh, but it's fun trying!!!!
OUR ROLE IN BRASIL

In moving back to Brasil we will NOT be moving back "home" to Rio de Janeiro; rather, we'll be moving to the southern city of Florianopolis, Santa Catarina. This will find us more strategically located in order to help more of our national church plants and church planters. And this will be our primary role -- that of coming alongside, mentoring and coaching those working to establish new churches throughout the country.

Prayer Requests:

Please continue to remember us in prayer...

1) For God to do something truly special in Haiti... using us in any way He sees fit to come alongside our brothers and sisters there.

2) God's clear vision in exactly where He wants us to live in Brasil (and that WE would be open to wherever He wants!).

3) For the financial support to come in that would allow us to minister in BOTH Haiti and Brasil

SPEAKING ABOUT FINANCES...

In order to fully minister in both Haiti and Brasil we're needing to raise an additional $600 per month in support.

Any and all of these gifts will be tax deductible.
